Thursday is here! Time for another round-up of what’s going on in the world of all things YA.
1) This week we received a glowing review of Kristin Cashore’s Bitterblue from teen review Gretchen, age 13:
“I loved this book, mainly for the depth of the plot-I won’t ruin it, but it’s AMAZING! I don’t think that you would have read Graceling and Fire to understand Bitterblue, as it does a good job of explaining itself. It truly is an enjoyable book for any reader.”
Read the whole review over on the BP Teen Blog.
2) Casting is in swing for the film adaptation of Daniel Handler’s novel Why We Broke Up. Deadline New York reports that Hailee Steinfield (of True Grit fame) is in negotiations to play Min. The book is written from Min’s point of view, as a series of letters to Ed about why they broke up. Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket) wrote the screenplay and the film is being produced by the same person who produced the Twilight Saga.
3) In honor of Gary Paulsen’s 72 birthday, Flavorwire rounded up ten books their staff reading growing up that TOTALLY SCARRED THEM FOR LIFE. White Fang, anyone?
4) QUICK: What is the Bavarian city located on the Danube River that was a legislative seat of the Holy Roman Empire from 1663 to 1806? Do you know? A 14 year old boy from Sugarland, Texas does, and it helped him win the National Geographic Spelling Bee Championship today.
5) We’re just under ONE MONTH AWAY from Lauren Kate’s visit to BookPeople! Rapture, Lauren Kate’s latest novel, hits shelves June 12 (pre-order now if you like) and we are very excited to have Lauren swinging through BookPeople while on tour! She’ll be here Thursday, June 21, 7p.
In the mean time, check out the trailer:
