It’s Thursday! Teen Thursday!
Here are a few things that caught our eye this week:
1) School’s almost out! It’s almost summer time! Which of course means…..Summer Reading! We’re full of recommendations, including the books on the Lone Star list. We just put up a display of these books in-store. Summer’s a great time to get a jump on the list, so toss a few of these books in your bag on your way to Barton Springs.
2) Fated, the new book in Alyson Noel Immortals series, hits shelves May 22. You can catch an excerpt of the book, as well as a lot of other extras, right now on Noel’s website. Also keep a lookout for trailers for the book, which will debut on television and the internet on May 22nd.
3) Two big releases this week: Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein, which we told you about in last week’s post, and Gilt by Katherine Longshore.
How can you, too, hit publishing fame and glory like Elizabeth and Katherine? It’s simple, according to Katherine. You write. (From her website) “I write every day. Sometimes I can write a thousand words, even though I don’t know where to start. Sometimes I can’t write fifty. Sometimes, all I can do is read a few chapters of a new research book and write down snippets of information on 3×5 cards. A change of scenery can help—a café, a walk, exercise, cooking. And when all else fails, I clean the house. It’s enough to inspire me to get back to the page.”
4) So you might have heard of this little book called Fifty Shades of Gray. Or perhaps you’re more familiar with a YA book called Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. Confused? You’re not the only one. Entertainment Weekly has a run down of the, um, situation. And to clarify, “Between Shades of Gray is a phenomenon in its own right, landing on several 2011 year-end best lists, and even more impressively, getting teens to read about genocide in Baltic countries at the hands of Stalin’s regime.”
And to be REALLY clear, here’s a review by one of our teen bloggers of Between Shades of Gray.
5) And this is just fun: a library in Lincoln, Vermont is putting over 200 miniature wind-up toys on display this summer. Here’s the video:
