Books for Mom

Mother’s Day is Sunday! Don’t freak out, we’re here to help. We have a lovely selection of Mother’s Day cards and a whole table full of recommendations for the mama who likes to read (not to mention a store full of fun and unusual gift items, including scarves, jewelry and kitchen items). Of course there’s always a gift card if you’re really stuck. And remember, we provide free gift wrapping for any purchase, just ask your cashier.

Here are a few suggestions:

For the Mama Who Likes to Laugh

Signed Copy of Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawon

If your mom likes to laugh at your own absurd, occasionally crude, adventures and doesn’t mind the occasional (or frequent) F-bomb, she’ll love this book. For fun with taxidermy animals, vultures, and one of the funniest bloggers writing today, this is your go-to book.

For the Mama Who Likes to Reflect

Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake by Anna Quindlen

This is a book for the mama who’s been through it all – Marriage: “A safety net of small white lies can be the bedrock of a successful marriage. You wouldn’t believe how cheaply I can do a kitchen renovation.” Parenting: “Being a parent is not transactional. We do not get what we give. It is the ultimate pay-it-forward endeavor: We are good parents not so they will be loving enough to stay with us but so they will be strong enough to leave us.” A lifetime’s worth of Stuff: “Here’s what it comes down to, really: there is now so much stuff in my head, so many years, so many memories, that it’s taken the place of primacy away from the things in the bedrooms, on the porch.”

For the Mama Who Likes to Rock It ‘7os style

A Natural Woman: A Memoir by Carole King

If your mom’s like mine, she had a battered copy of Tapestry in her record crate alongside Joan Baez, the Beatles and Neil Diamond (and if you’re anything like me, you stole that copy, and all the Beatles albums, when you went away to college). King’s memoir covers her early days in Brooklyn through her life as a performer, activist, wife and mother.

For the Mama Who Likes to Cook

The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food From My Frontier by Ree Drummond

Super Mom Ree Drummond offers up more of her signature country-style cooking in this latest cookbook. The best way to gift a cookbook on Mother’s Day? Whip up one of the recipes and then present Mom with the meal and the book. Nothing says lovin’ like a meal you don’t have to make yourself.

For the Mama Who’s Not YOUR Mama

Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James

Never mind, she probably has it already. But if not….
