Like I mentioned last week, we have two great authors, Tahereh Mafi and Veronica Rossi, coming to join us on Thursday to talk about their new books. Last week a couple of our teens told you what they thought about Veronica Rossi’s Under the Never Sky, and this week a couple of big kids (aka “adults”) reviewed Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me.
First up, we have Meghan our Teen Buyer. Here’s what she had to say:
Dystopia junkies and superhero superfans unite! This tautly written fantasy is an awesome mix of both genres. Environmental crisis and a violent, totalitarian government set the scene for the rise of a whole new brand of mutants with powers. Intrigued?
And then there’s my thoughts on this book:
Juliette is having a bad life. Whenever she touches someone, she seems to drain the life out of them – literally killing them if she isn’t careful. The Reestablishment that rules her land, confines her to a mental institution until Warner, an up and coming member of the Reestablishment considers using her gift (or as she views it, curse) as a weapon. This tense drama forces Juliette to reexamine her life and perhaps what she can accomplish in it. And with the twist at the end, the book left me wishing the sequel was already out.
Join us Thursday at 7PM when Tahereh and Veronica come to the store to sign books and talk about their books. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll tell us what happens next. For more information on the event, click here.
