D Magazine has a great piece this week about Ben Fountain, author of the critically acclaimed story collection Brief Encounters with Che Guevara. The article discusses Fountain’s struggle after Malcolm Gladwell bestowed upon Fountain the title of “genius” in a New Yorker essay, which put more than a little pressure on the book he was working on at the time. That novel was never published, but Fountain’s subsequent novel, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, is set to release on May 1st. We’ll welcome Fountain here to the store to read from the book, which D Magazine calls “funny, poignant, and bizarre” on May 2nd.
