It’s National Jenny Lawson Day! Because We Say So!

We’re celebrating the release of Jenny Lawson’s hilarious new memoir today, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened. Woo hoo! Congratulations, Jenny! Your blog is awesome! Three cheers! We officially declare this national Jenny Lawson Day! (Within the borders of the nation of BookPeople.)

If you like things such as having a good time and also books that make you laugh out loud so often you make other people reading other, not-so-funny books in the same room with you writhe with jealousy, pick up this book. Right now.

Critics have compared Lawson’s style to David Sedaris, and while both writers are certainly hilarious, Lawson’s tone is all her own. Her conversational style draws you right into her sometimes wild, often bizarre, endlessly fascinating world. Most of us will never take a job as an elf at Macy’s; many of us will, however, create whole universes of anxiety out of marriage, child-rearing, and whether or not our new house was built on an Indian burial ground and that’s why the vultures are descending….right, see, that’s why Jenny Lawson’s awesome, because she says the things we’re all too afraid to say we’re really worried about.

We’re fortunate enough to have the pleasure of hosting Jenny Lawson here at BookPeople next Wednesday, April 25, 7p to speak about & sign Let’s Pretend This Never Happened. The speaking portion of this event is free and open to the public, however tickets are required to join the signing line. Tickets are available with the purchase of a copy of Let’s Pretend This Never Happened from BookPeople, which you can do right now via www.bookpeople.com or by giving us a call at 512-472-5050. We’ll have also have $10 signing line tickets available the day of for people who already have a copy of the book they did not purchase from BookPeople.

For now, enjoy this book trailer Lawson made herself, featuring the one and only Wil Wheaton copying and collating blank paper:
