Exciting news on a Monday afternoon: award-winning journalist and Texas native DAN RATHER is coming to BookPeople on Friday, May 11, 7p! He’ll be here to speak about and sign his new memoir, Rather Outspoken: My Life in the News. The speaking portion of his event is free and open to the public. Wristbands are required for the signing portion of this event and are available only with the purchase of a copy of Rather Outspoken from BookPeople.
Rather Outspoken: My Life in the News covers all of the major stories from Rather’s long career – the assassination of JFK, Abu Ghraib, George W. Bush’s presidency, his dismissal from CBS, and also promises inside stories about the people Rather has interviewed over the years.
We’re also hoping it includes many classic “Ratherisms” (thank you, Wikipedia, for the following examples):
“This race is shakier than cafeteria Jell-O.”
“Things are getting hotter than a Times Square Rolex.”
“This thing is as tight as the rusted lugnuts on a ’55 Ford.”
(When Georgia was called for Clinton in 1992) “Clinton is off to a start, rolling like a big wheel through a Georgia cotton field.”
“This race is tight like a too-small bathing suit on a too-long ride home from the beach.”
“He swept through the South like a tornado through a trailer park.”
“Turn the lights down, the party just got wilder.”
“This will show you how tight it is – it’s spandex tight.”
