AIBA Launches Local Business Manifesto

Next Wednesday, April 4 at 9:30am the Austin Independent Business Alliance will launch their Local Business Manifesto at a press conference on our third floor. The result of a year of research and analysis, The Manifesto outlines three goals of locally-owned businesses as well as programs to achieve those goals.

From the AIBA’s press release:

“Local businesses are the backbone of our local economy and generate most of the jobs and taxes that run our city. In fact, Austin small businesses with fewer than 20 employees accounted for 81% of total growth in all businesses. In addition, for every $100 in customer spending at a chain store, the total local economic impact is only $13. The same amount spent with a local merchant yields $45, creating more than three times the local economic impact.”

The Austin City Council has drafted a Resolution to support the Local Business Manifesto and to direct the City Manager to begin work on several of the suggested solutions.

BookPeople is proud to be a member of the AIBA. We strongly believe that shopping at locally owned businesses strengthens our community and goes a long way towards keeping Austin weird.
