Austin has lost a local treasure today. Leslie Cochran succumbed to illness early this morning. We’ve been accepting donations for Leslie since Friday, March 2nd and will continue to accept donations for any remaining expenses and for future projects to honor our friend Leslie. We will also continue to give out Leslie magnet sets to anyone who donates $10 or more.
According to Leslie’s friend Debbie Russell, two public services will be held in his honor. Tonight a march is planned down 6th St. at 7pm, and a memorial service will take place in a couple of weeks. Details on the memorial service are to come.The Mayor plans to announce today “Leslie Day”.

The outpouring of goodwill we’ve seen for Leslie this week has been a reminder of what makes our Austin community such a unique place to live. We’ll miss you, Leslie, and do what we can to keep it weird in your honor.
