Last week Merrilee announced that she and other BookPeople booksellers have accepted Mac Barnett’s bookseller knitting challenge. Since then, our knitters have been keeping their fingers nimble stitching together a sweater for an object in our store. The contest was inspired by Barnett’s delightful new picture book, Extra Yarn.
Today, Robyn and Merrilee finished up the first sleeve.
Robyn will commence work on the second sleeve this weekend. Merrilee’s taking off from work next Wednesday and Thursday to ensure her portion will be done by the deadline, which is March 1st (and coming fast!) Danielle is also hard at work. This is the first knitting experience for Robyn and Danielle, and they’re both total converts to the lifestyle. This project has even inspired Danielle to buy dowel rods and make her own double pointed knitting needles.
Next week our knitters are planning a cram session where they’ll stitch up all the separate pieces, work out all the kinks, and figure out how in the world they’re going to get this sweater onto the object they’ve chosen.
