If you’re feeling the pressure of the big day tomorrow and still haven’t found that perfect gift to impress your Valentine, here are a few suggestions from the selection of unique items we have on our shelves. (This is by no means a hint to my boyfriend, who already did his job of bringing home Amy’s chocolate covered strawberries this weekend.)
Made with Love Sandwich Bags
From the packaging: “Each bag is decorated with luscious lipstick prints in two different styles.”
I love these little bags! How sweet would it be to open up your lunch box or boring old brown paper bag and find your sandwich certified that it was made with love? ($4.95)
Eco Cups – Mug Love Edition
I adore these lovers’ editions of the oh-so-popular and environmentally friendly Eco Cups. For the Valentine on the go! ($9.95)
Heart Gelatin Mold
What better way to say I Love You than with a representation of the actual human heart? For those sick of all this Valentine’s Day stuff, we also stock a zombie brain gelatin mold you may enjoy. ($6.25)
Glass Tommy Gun Vase
This is easily one of the most popular items on the Valentine’s display. It’s an 18 inch glass Tommy Gun that can hold 22oz of whatever you want to put in it – water, whiskey, it’s your choice. For the significant other who has absolutely everything. ($35.00)
Tickets to the Austin Food and Wine Festival
While these technically aren’t on our shelves (you can order tickets online on the festival’s website), I still want to recommend them. This is a gift that will really wow your Valentine. The festival will be a weekend-long feast of gourmet food and wine, studded with a high profile line-up of celebrity chefs. Scheduled for April 27-29.
And of course, I have books to recommend:
The Lover’s Dictionary: A Novel by David Levithan
When this book came out in hardcover, I sat down and read the whole thing in one sitting. This is the story of a relationship defined one word at a time, a dictionary of the couple’s experiences together that is intimate, honest and enthralling. Now available in paperback.
Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair by Pablo Neruda
No one writes a love poem like Neruda. Originally published in 1924, this collection is a classic. Literary AND romantic. To be read aloud, preferably by candle light with a bottle of something bubbly nearby. Sounds like a perfect Valentine’s Day to me.
