It’s Your Lucky Day!

We have news of a lovely little e-Book sale to kick off the week. Algonquin has dropped the price of 7 select e-Books to $1.99, February 13 – 19.

The publisher asked seven authors to select their favorite Algonquin title of all time – new or old, it didn’t matter, it just had to be a book for which they have an abiding, passionate love. The authors and their selections are below. You can download them all from us. The IndieBound Reader App will help you with the download if you have a (non-Kindle) Android or iOS device.

Robert Olmstead (Far Bright Star) on MICHAEL PARKER’S
If You Want Me to Stay
:

“Michael Parker’s novel makes me think of dickens, Twain and Salinger, the unforgettable voices of boys’ lives. I think there used to be a time when we read for meaning – here’s your chance to do it again.

Amy Stewart (Wicked Bugs) on RICHARD GOODMAN’S
French Dirt
:

“Richard Goodman is smart, funny and sophisticated, but hopelessly naive when it comes to planting a garden. This is armchair horticulture – and armchair travel – at its best.”

Hillary Jordan (When She Woke) on JILL MCCORKLE’S
Going Away Shoes:

I love Jill Mccorkle for her wise and delicious wit, her ability to find humor in the tedium and sorrows of everyday life, and for sentences like, “Bob could dive into a pile of shit and come out riding a silver pony.”

Jonathan Evison (West of Here) on LARRY BROWN’S
Dirty Work
:

“Larry Brown is gritty, inventive and musical. Read him. Love him. Gift him. His debut novel, Dirty Work, is a great place to start.”

Caroline Leavitt (Pictures of You) on BROCK CLARKE’S
An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England
:

“An accidental arsonist turned husband and father has to grapple with his past when firest start igniting once again. Deliciously dark and funny – I would marry this novel if I could.”

Tayari Jones (Silver Sparrow) on JIM GRIMSLEY’S
Winter Birds
:

“Grimsley is a virtuoso with a mastery of language that makes you forgive him for completely breaking your heart with thsi gorgeous and unforgettable novel.”

Heidi Durrow (The Girl Who Fell from the Sky) on
JOSEPH SKIBELL’S
A Blessing on the Moon:

“A lyrical, unflinching look at one of our darkest hours as a civilization, but Skibell’s writing sings despite the horror and grief it describes. It’s one of my all-time favorites!”

  1. Wait, I have a Kindle and the IndieBound reader app, have purchased stuff this way before, will these deals still not translate? Why does this say non-Kindle?

    1. Hi Nancy,

The deal applies to anyone with any device. “Non-Kindle” was in reference to the Indiebound app, not the deal. Most Kindle devices won’t support the Indiebound Reader app. There is a way to sideload it onto a Kindle Fire. Is that your Kindle device? If you have a different Kindle and can still you use the app, that’s very good news to us! I’d love to hear how you make it work, as we receive a lot of questions about it and it’s been our understanding that unless you have the Fire, you can’t use the Indiebound app on your device.

      1. I do have a Kindle Fire, so I’ll try to get a book this way through the app. I just tried getting the app on my original Kindle to test it out, but I frankly didn’t know where to go or how to do that. Thank you for clarifying this! Sorry I’m no help.
