As every knitter knows, there’s no such thing as too much yarn. In Mac Barnett’s new picture book, Extra Yarn, Annabelle doesn’t have too much yarn, she just has extra. So after she knits sweaters for herself, her family and friends, everyone else in town and all the animals in the woods, she starts to knit sweaters for more unusual sweater wearers: doghouses, barns, even a pickup truck.
Right now on his website, Mac Barnett has issued a challenge to knitting indie booksellers everywhere: knit a sweater for something at your store. (Hey, bookshelves and display racks get cold too, you know!) The most ambitious, original project, as judged by Mac himself, and Extra Yarn‘s illustrator, Jon Klassen, will be handsomely rewarded.
Now I don’t want to prejudice our judges unfairly, but so far my project has taken a dozen knitters and at least sixteen balls of yarn….sounds pretty ambitious to me!

Wish us luck, and stay tuned for what may be the largest yarn bombing Austin sees this year!
