Coven of Literary Horror Aficionados To Meet, Talk Books

Five hours shy of the witching hour (7pm) on January 17th at BookPeople, a sinister faction of horror epicureans will meet in the dark recesses of the third floor to celebrate all things corrupted and weird with a roundtable discussion of Fritz Leiber’s spooky masterwork, Conjure Wife.  With a premise so unwholesome that it tingles the flesh like the cacophony of so many centipedes skittering across the strings of a disused autoharp, Conjure Wife tells the story of a young professor’s descent into madness upon the discovery of his wife’s secret practice of sorcery.

Imagine, if you will, an episode of Bewitched, wherein all of the pratfalls are replaced with demonic incantations, and our hapless hero is forced to battle ghastly assailants the likes of which he is barely able to comprehend.  Professor Saylor’s rational mind is unequipped to confront the nuance and paranoia inherent in the ancient feminine art of witchcraft, and we of The Nightmare Factory Book Club are here to deconstruct his crumbling sanity.  Our coven of literary horror aficionados meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the conference room on the third floor.  You’ll come for the fanciful discussion of high art, but you’ll stay because you’re too scared to walk to your car alone.
