I know. I know. Everyone by now is sick of the Twelve Days of Christmas. You have heard it in the car, and in every store you’ve ventured into this season. You’ve heard the Muppets sing it and tons of satiric variations. In the bookstores you’ve been bombarded with picture books and board books and pop-up books with different artistic themes and motifs.
But even as jaded as you and I are with the Twelve Days of Christmas, you will be amazed and delighted when you see the new picture book by Laurel Long.
Yes, the words are the same as the traditional carol, but the illustrations are magnificent. Just as the song builds, the illustrations build. For instance on the page for the “Five Golden Rings”, you will, of course find five golden rings. However, cleverly placed throughout the picture you will also find those four calling birds, three french hens, two turtle doves, and that partridge in a pear tree.
This fabulous book would make a marvelous addition to any Christmas traditions.
