YA fans, we have some very exciting news – Jay Asher & Carolyn Mackler are coming to BookPeople on Monday, January 23, 7p to speak and sign their brand new novel, The Future of Us!
Asher’s #1 New York Times bestselling book Thirteen Reasons Why is one of our all time favorites, and of course we’re also huge fans of Mackler’s prize-winning The Earth, My Butt and Other Big Round Things. Their new collaborative novel, The Future of Us, explores an interesting premise – what if, back in the good ol’ days of dial-up internet, you popped in your AOL CD-Rom only to be met with your adult self’s facebook page? What would your teenage self think of you now, spilling your guts on the world wide web and leading a less than perfect life? And what would you do to change the outcome?
The Future of Us has garnered a number of positive reviews (LA Times, NY Times, Publisher’s Weekly) and has already been optioned for a movie. Many of our teen reviewers have read it and have good things to say, as well.
This event, like the majority of our events, will be free and open to the public. If you’d like to get a book signed, you must buy your copy of The Future of Us from BookPeople. This allows us to continue to bring awesome authors of all genres here to Austin for you to meet. To stay up to date on this and all of our Teen events, sign up for our Teen E-newsletter.
We hope all of Asher and Mackler’s local fans can join us in welcoming them to Austin!

I really enjoyed the secondary characters as well. Emma and Josh¿s best friends, Tyson and Kellan were really great characters. I think I may have liked them a bit more than the main characters. I love, love, love all the references from the 1990¿s. This really brings back memories of my teen years. The music that is mentioned in the book is the same music I listened to: Dave Matthews Band and Green Day. I loved them!
