Unlikely Friendships: 47 Remarkable Stories from the Animal Kingdom by Jennifer S. Holland

If it’s true what they say, that a picture is worth a thousand words, then this book is probably the deepest, most penetrating examination of the idea of what, exactly, constitutes the meaning of the word “cute”. If it’s true that any one book could provide a “road map to peace” for the many war torn battlefields of our planet, this book would be the one. Place it in the hands of any two warring entities and, instead of the constant chatter of machine gun fire, the only sound that would be heard is just one long sustained “Awwwwwww.” There is a photograph of an ape and a feral kitten that gives us hope that some day, one day, all of us will find someone to love and someone to love us back. I keep that photo at my desk.
