If you’re a fan of Christopher Paolini, then there’s only one thing you’re doing this weekend, and that’s coming to BookPeople tomorrow, 11/19 at 2p, to meet him and have him sign the final book in his bestselling series, Inheritance.
But if fantasy fiction isn’t your thing, or maybe you’re looking for things to do after you meet your favorite author, then there are a couple of cool events happening in Austin this weekend that you should know about:
1. 6th Annual Home Slice Carnival-O-Pizza
Every year, Home Slice throws itself a birthday party called the Carnival-O-Pizza. Held in their parking lot at 1415 South Congress, folks can participate in pizza eating competitions, a dough tossing competition, a silent auction, play carnival games like Plinko, and do tons of other fun stuff. Make sure to check out the Minor Mishap Marching Band this year, they’re awesome! Proceeds from the carnival benefit a non-profit, and this year it’s Austin Bat Cave (big hearts all over the place for them, they provide tools and opportunities for kids and teens to develop their creative writing skills.) The Midway opens at noon tomorrow, Saturday 11/19. Fun for all ages! And lots of it!
2. American Short Fiction: Best of the Beasts
Saturday night at 7pm the good folks at American Short Fiction, Austin’s awesome literary magazine, will launch their fall issue at Domy Books. They’re calling the shin-dig ASF Presents: Best of the Beasts. They’ll have animal-themed readings, music from local band Borrisokane, and special guests, Puppet Improv Project. Word is there will also be animal masks and beer. They ask that if you’re going, you let ’em know on facebook (and you should like they’re page, anyway – ASF publishes innovative fiction from authors big and small. A new issue is always a treat. You can get yours here at BookPeople.) Be there or be bored on a Saturday night!
