I was introduced to Daniel Woodrell’s work through many of my favorite authors, so it only seemed fitting that we invite some of those writers to join him to discuss his new short story collection, The Outlaw Album, tomorrow night (Saturday, October 22nd, 7pm.)
Getting ready for the event this week, we asked the two authors who will be joining Woodrell here for his event what they thought of him and his work.

One could argue that Woodrell paved the way for Frank Bill and his style of midwest rural noir. Bill is visceral and raw, but he keeps the humanity in his work no matter how violent the action gets. It’s no surprise he holds Dan in awe. When I asked him about Woodrell he said, “It’s been said and I’ll say it again, Daniel says more in one sentence than most writers say in an entire book. He gives a voice to the voiceless. He’s Hemingway’s noir brother.”

Also joining us on Saturday will be another one of MysteryPeople’s favorites, Craig Johnson. Craig shares Dan’s technique of employing humor in the darkest of scenes. Craig’s take on Dan – “Daniel Woodrell writes so true it hurts your feelings; he is, without exception, the most talented writer I know.”
So there you have it. Join us this Saturday for a very unique event with these three writers, and learn to love Daniel Woodrell like we all do.
