The Outlaw Album, the new book by Daniel Woodrell, one of Scott’s favorite authors (in other words, an author he can’t stop talking about to customers, booksellers, his Mom, anyone who will listen) hit shelves today. If the name Woodrell rings a bell, it’s probably for one of two reasons: (1) You saw the movie Winter’s Bone, loved it, did some investigating and discovered it was based on the novel Winter’s Bone written by Daniel Woodrell; or (2) You read the papers when President Obama was vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard this summer and were intrigued by his selection of Woodrell’s collection of novellas, The Bayou Trilogy, at a local bookstore.
OR, maybe you know the name Daniel Woodrell because you’ve been listening to us shout from the rooftops about how excited we are to host him here on Saturday, October 22nd, 7pm to speak about and sign The Outlaw Album. Not only will Woodrell be here, but his buddy Craig Johnson will be joining him, too. Here’s Scott talking up Dan, the new book, and the event:
Since this video was made, Scott’s had a haircut, but in even more important news, one of Scott’s other favorite authors (who, again, he will not stop talking about) Frank Bill has agreed to join Dan and Craig on October 22nd. Bill is the author of the new collection of stories Crimes in Southern Indiana, which was Scott’s August MysteryPeople Pick of the Month.
So get with it – pick up one of Woodrell’s books. Start with the trilogy of novellas, or the novel, or the new collection of stories. Wherever you go first, you will not be disappointed. And then come down in a couple of weeks and meet not one, not two, but three of Scott’s favorite crime fiction writers.
