Read A Banned Book: ‘The Odyssey’

It’s Banned Books Week, the week when we celebrate our freedom to read by remembering those books which have been banned and censored over the years. We’ll highlight a banned book a day here on the blog. If you’d like to participate in BBW, send us a video of yourself reading an excerpt from a banned book and we’ll post it on this Youtube channel, where a worldwide Virtual Read Out is in full swing. (Send your videos to alison@bookpeople.com.)

BANNED BOOK:

The Odyssey by Homer

~Attempted censorship by Plato, who suggested expurgation for immature readers.

~Ban attempted by Caligula on the grounds that it expressed Greek ideals of freedom.
