Twenty-five years ago, when I was a wee lad of 13, I purchased at a used book sale run by the nuns at my church a small paperback book titled The Survivor and Other Stories by H. P. Lovecraft and August Derleth. This book, after scaring the bejeezus out of me, changed my life forever; I was a horror afficionado and a collector of all things related to Lovecraft.  And now, a quarter of a century later, I get to return that favour by inviting one and all to come join our newest book club at BookPeople: The Nightmare Factory.

Named for a collection of stories by the great Thomas Ligotti, The Nightmare Factory Book Club will meet the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm on our 3rd floor and your hosts will be myself, Joe Turner, and our very own Bosco Farr.  We will be discussing what I hope wil be some of the best horror fiction you will ever read.

Our first meeting will be on September 20th and we will be discussing Kim Newman’s Anno Dracula from 1992 which was just reissued after a lengthy absence from the bookshelves of the world. Presenting a world where Dracula bested Van Helsing and then returned to England to become the consort of Queen Victoria, it is a great read full of horror and adventure that I cannot recommend enough.

So, swing by BookPeople and grab a copy of the book (which is 10% off if you tell the cashier you are purchasing it for the book club) and come back on September 20th to tell me what you thought of it!
