Last night we had the extreme displeasure of hosting Lemony Snicket – who couldn’t even be bothered to show up. Instead we had to suffice with Snicket’s official representative, Daniel Handler. Fortunately, Handler turned out to be a pretty okay guy, though we did have to shout ALL 13 WORDS from Snicket’s new book, 13 Words, to get him to come out from behind the curtain.
While we waited for Mr. Handler to come out, people composed their own songs using their favorite 13 words and we held a raffle. Here are the winners:

If you handed in a song with your 13 Words, STAY TUNED – you have been entered into a SECRET CONTEST whose details will soon be revealed.
After Daniel Handler said a few words (most of which were NOT the 13 words from the book) he stayed for a very long time and signed books for everyone. Like we said, he was an okay guy (but just okay.)
The best part of the night, really, was the cake. A big, big thanks to Austin Cake Studio for doing a superb job recreating each of the cakes from 13 Words. For those of you who weren’t there (Lemony Snicket), they tasted even better than they looked.
So now Snicket knows what he missed. Thanks to everyone who came out, and to Daniel Handler for signing so many books, and again to Austin Cake Studio. As far as disappointing evenings go, this one actually wasn’t so bad. In fact, it was pretty fantastic.
