Brian Hart, local author and graduate of UT’s Michener Center will be at BookPeople this Thursday night (1/21) at 7 PM to read from his debut novel Then Came the Evening . Hart spent time working as a carpenter, welder, drywall hanger, dishwasher, commercial fisherman, line cook, and janitor until he won the 2005 Keane Prize for Literature.
Then Came the Evening has been getting glowing reviews throughout the literary world. Austin’s own Stephen Harrigan called it an “important book, a novel of raging velocity and blazing empathy, a mature achievement. Brian Hart knows everything about his rural western setting, everything about his short-on-luck characters, and everything about making a reader turn the pages. This is a first novel written with a master’s skill.”
A portion of the proceeds from tonight’s event will go towards the Michener Center. Founded in 1989, the Center offers an interdisciplinary MFA, and many of it’s graduates have gone on to publish award winning works. Join us on Thursday night to hear this young new talent and support a good cause.
