I’m always excited to feature writers with an Austin connection, and even more excited to feature writers with a Michener Center connection.  The Michener Center pulls together some amazing authors, and Austin is lucky to be home for these writers, at least for a little while.  But even better that an Austin author from the Michener Center is an author who gets compared to literary giants like Cormac McCarthy, Richard Russo, Dennis Lehane and even Ernest Hemingway.

Philipp Meyer fits all these descriptions.  His debut novel, American Rust, came out to rave reviews from just about everyone.  You can see for yourself what all the fuss is about Friday, March 13 at 7PM when he’ll be reading from and answering questions about his book here at BookPeople.

I'm the Marketing Director for BookPeople, and I love my job. I book different authors to come to the store, talk to publishers about why BookPeople is the greatest independent bookstore ever, and I also work hard at making sure you, the public, love BookPeople as much as I love BookPeople. The best part is getting to meet amazing authors, like Pres. Jimmy Carter, David Sedaris or Ron Jeremy*. My favorite books seem to vary wildly. I cannot understate how much I love Mr. Darcy, and Pride and Prejudice has been reread many times. Also, I have Harry Potter lightning bolts tattooed on my feet, and I truly feel like I should have played Hermione in the movies (even though I'm about 10 years too old). Some recent favorites are: The Story of Forgetting by Stefan Block, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly and Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Also, I have a sweet hubby and super cute son named Lucas. It is widely agreed-upon (by me and my family) that Lucas is the most adorable baby ever born. *Seriously though, Ron Jeremy wore sweatpants to the store and talked nonstop about famous people who are his "friends." It was a hilarious and magical evening, and he left with a girl named Bambi. I'm not making any of this up.
