Mexican Enough

Last year, Stephanie Elizondo Griest was all over Austin.  Her fabulous book, Around the Bloc, was chosen as the Mayor’s Book Club book for 2007.  Thousands of Austinites read this book, if her BookPeople book sales are any indication.

Around the Bloc is Stephanie’s travel memoir from her trips in communist (or formerly communist) countries.  She did lots of different events around town promoting the book club, and I was lucky enough to see two of them.  And, let me tell you, she is a dynamo.  No stodgy book reading from Stephanie!  We had different voices and dancing and lots of laughter.

I’m excited to see Stephanie again, this time as she talks about her new book Mexican Enough.  She’ll be at BookPeople on 9/9 at 7PM.  Check out the great interview with Stephanie that was just in the Austin American-Statesman!

I'm the Marketing Director for BookPeople, and I love my job. I book different authors to come to the store, talk to publishers about why BookPeople is the greatest independent bookstore ever, and I also work hard at making sure you, the public, love BookPeople as much as I love BookPeople. The best part is getting to meet amazing authors, like Pres. Jimmy Carter, David Sedaris or Ron Jeremy*. My favorite books seem to vary wildly. I cannot understate how much I love Mr. Darcy, and Pride and Prejudice has been reread many times. Also, I have Harry Potter lightning bolts tattooed on my feet, and I truly feel like I should have played Hermione in the movies (even though I'm about 10 years too old). Some recent favorites are: The Story of Forgetting by Stefan Block, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly and Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Also, I have a sweet hubby and super cute son named Lucas. It is widely agreed-upon (by me and my family) that Lucas is the most adorable baby ever born. *Seriously though, Ron Jeremy wore sweatpants to the store and talked nonstop about famous people who are his "friends." It was a hilarious and magical evening, and he left with a girl named Bambi. I'm not making any of this up.
