YA New Releases!

the2blast2bstar2bby2brick2byanceyThe Last Star by Rick Yancey

We’re here, then we’re gone, and that was true before they came. That’s always been true. The Others didn’t invent death; they just perfected it. Gave death a face to put back in our face, because they knew that was the only way to crush us. It won’t end on any continent or ocean, no mountain or plain, jungle or desert. It will end where it began, where it had been from the beginning, on the battlefield of the last beating human heart.

The final book in this epic series will leave readers awestruck, then bring them straight back to book one, where they’ll comb the text for the clues that master storyteller Rick Yancey has been planting all along.

In San Francisco in 1906, a spot at St. Clare’s School is off limits for all but the wealthiest white girls. However, 15-year-old Mercy Wong knows that education is the best way out of Chinatown’s squalor. Through a mix of cunning and a little bribery, Mercy gains admittance, only to discover that getting in would be her easiest challenge. But Mercy refuses to be undone by a bunch of spoiled heiresses and stands strong—until disaster strikes. On April 18, a massive earthquake destroys Mercy’s home and school. With the city in shambles and martial law in effect, she’s forced to wait with her classmates for their families in a temporary park encampment. Days pass, some families never surface, and the help they’re promised does not arrive. Bringing people together from the unlikeliest of places, Mercy’s determination helps create a haven from the ashes for those suffering in her broken city.

Reports from the Teen Press Corps

illuminae_book_art_-_p_2015ICYMI, Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff signed Illuminae at BookPeople on May 8th. Check out what Willa has to say about Illuminae

Illuminae is essentially a survival story. It’s a story of refugees and of thousands of people trying to survive a coming attack from an enemy ship. It’s a story of Kady and Ezra trying to survive in a new life so very different from their old one. Kady becomes a hacker trying to save her people and Ezra becomes a pilot and a part of the military. The plot of this book is insane – in six hundred pages you go through numerous near-death experiences, battles, crazy new character, and threat after threat. You see Kady and Ezra fumbling to figure out what they mean to each other – are they still in love? Can they ever be together again, despite them being on two different ships?”

2592Interview with Rick Yancey!

From The Guardian: “The Last Star, the conclusion to The 5th Wave trilogy, hits the bookstores this week, satisfying the curiosity of thousands of readers over the world about what happens in the ravishing end. For the Wavers (the name the 5th Wave fandom goes by) of the UK, there is other news: the movie version The 5th Wave has just been released on DVD and Blu-ray!

To celebrate this remarkable week, I had the pleasure of reading The Last Star before it hit the stores and to talk to the man who has brought all of this to life, North-American writer Rick Yancey, author of more than 15 books which have been translated into more than 30 languages. Of course, I’ll do it without giving away any spoilers, so new fans and old can read on without fear.” More from Pedro’s interview with Yancey here.
